CMS TELNET ACCESS TO WINLINK 2000. Winlink 2000 users that use Telnet to access the system, there is an additional improved Telnet Service available. You may now connect DIRECTLY to a Common Message Server (CMS) site, thereby, reducing the possibility of a missed message due to a PMBO being off-line. The throughput of this system is immediate in terms of seconds, not minutes. It is MUCH faster than using normal e-mail as long as both ends of the communications are using Winlink 2000. With the new CMS Telnet system, for small home systems, there is usually not a need to open any port for a home router/firewall system since this method only uses outgoing initiated port 8772. For those who "TIME OUT," look to insure that port 8772 TCP is open. Airmail Telnet Client setup. Go to Airmail 3.x menu item: "Tools>Options>Modules" and check the "Internet ACCESS (Telnet)" Option. Then go to the main "Modules" menu and click on "Internet Access (Telnet)." Once the Airmail "Internet Access" module FORM is up, click on "NEW" and input the configurations for Telnet Servers: Preferred single configuration, which allows an automatic round robin of the four CMS Telnet server locations (method automatically used by PaclinkMP): WL2K (Remote Call Sign) Server.winlink.org (Remote Host) 8772 (PORT) 120 (Timeout in seconds) CMSTELNET (Password) Using the above configuration in Airmail's "Internet Access" option will allow the continued use should one or more CMS not be operative. This is the method automatically used by PaclinkMP. For each CMS location: WL2KW (Remote Call Sign) washington.winlink.org (Remote Host) 8772 (PORT) 120 (Timeout in seconds) CMSTELNET (Password) WL2KS (Remote Call Sign) SanDiego.winlink.org (Remote Host) 8772 (PORT) 120 (Timeout in seconds) CMSTELNET (Password) WL2KH (Remote Call Sign) Halifax.winlink.org (Remote Host) 8772 (PORT) 120 (Timeout in seconds) CMSTELNET (Password) WL2KP (Remote Call Sign) Perth.winlink.org (Remote Host) 8772 (PORT) 120 (Timeout in seconds) CMSTELNET (Password) If you wish you can also set the module to initialize when bringing up Airmail by also checking "autostart" (not recommended for durations less than 60 minutes if used at all). If you wish to start the module manually (recommended), then go to menu item: "Module>Internet Access." Remember, Telnet is just a convenient substitute for the primary use of this system. HF radio, using the Pactor protocols and VHF/UHF using AX.25 Packet, D-STAR, and 802.11, are the primary paths for Winlink 2000 use.
